Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gambling is banned. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of amenities aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
